GeM tenders in India: a complete guide
GeM tenders are central government purchase notices on the Government e-Marketplace. Indian contractors and MSMEs search GeM by category, then hunt EMD, turnover and deadlines inside PDFs. TenderChief watches matching GeM listings and sends a WhatsApp brief so you can decide go or no-go without reading every NIT first.

What are GeM tenders?
GeM is the Government e-Marketplace — the main portal for many central government and PSU buys in India. A GeM tender (or bid) is a public notice asking registered sellers to quote for goods or services: CCTV, civil works, electrical, medical, IT, school supplies and more.
Each listing usually hides the facts that decide a bid: earnest money (EMD), minimum turnover, class of contractor, certificates, BOQ items and the bid-lock time. Those sit in attached documents, not on the search card.
How do I search GeM tenders without reading every PDF?
Portal search shows everything in a category. If you bid in one or two trades, that is hours of opening NITs that you cannot win. Set a TenderChief profile with your category and the states you actually work in. We scan GeM daily and only forward listings that look worth a closer look.
You still open the official GeM bid before you submit. The brief is a screen, not a bid.
What does TenderChief pull from a GeM bid?
A typical WhatsApp GeM tender alert includes a match note, EMD amount, turnover bar, certificate flags, BOQ highlights and time left to lock. Pro plans add Excel BOQ export and faster corrigendum pings.
- EMD amount and obvious MSME exemption notes
- Turnover and contractor-class gates
- ISO, CE, BIS or other certificate mentions
- BOQ highlights for a first-pass estimate
- Submission and bid-lock deadlines
Do I still bid on the official GeM portal?
Yes. TenderChief does not submit bids, hold your DSC, or replace GeM. After a brief, you verify every term on the official listing, then bid under your own digital signature. We are not affiliated with GeM, NIC or the Government of India.
Questions people ask
- Are GeM tenders only for large companies?
- No. Many GeM bids suit MSMEs and small vendors, especially in goods categories. Turnover, EMD and certificates still decide eligibility. TenderChief flags those facts early so a small firm does not spend a day on a bid it cannot submit.
- How is this different from GeM bid search?
- GeM search lists every bid in a keyword or category. TenderChief starts from your profile and sends government tender alerts only when a GeM listing looks relevant. You still confirm and bid on GeM.
- Can I watch GeM and my state portal together?
- Yes. Starter covers one state portal or central GeM. Pro adds multi-state plus GeM All-India in the same WhatsApp briefing.
